Work Group Priorities 2010
With the recent highly publicized child fatality in Wylie, the workgroup feels it has an obligation to highlight the importance of child safety in Collin County.
A Safety Workgroup Plan (PDF) for 2010-2011 has been established to highlight various priorities throughout the remainder of the year. These priorities include:
- Increase awareness related to school stressors and students
- Increase awareness regarding child safety
- Increase awareness regarding mental health resources for families
Members are encouraged to review the plan to gain more insight about target audience and priorities. To share ideas or for additional questions, contact Safety Team Leader Susan Etheridge.
Summer Safety
With summer around the corner, the safety group encourages families to keep their children's safety a high priority. A Summer Safety Sheet (PDF) has been created to offer families resources on pool, baby-sitting and bike safety. Additionally the Booster Seat Law (PDF) went into effect June 1, 2010. Families will begin receiving fines if they fail to properly transport their children. With proper booster seat usage, severe head, spinal cord and internal organ injuries can be reduced by 59%. For more information on child passenger safety laws, visit the Texas Department of Public Safety website.
