Major Findings
- The rate of adolescent pregnancy declined 40% between 1995 and 2004.
- 83% of Collin County 2 year olds were fully immunized in 2006, well above the Texas immunization rate of 79.5%.
- The rates of prematurity and infant mortality are increasing.
- More than 50,000 Collin County children have limited access to healthcare as a result of being uninsured or being enrolled in Children's Medicaid or CHIP.
- There is a severe lack of behavioral health treatment for children and youth in Collin County.
- During the 2006-2007 school year, 768 public school students in Collin County were disciplined for possessing alcohol, tobacco or controlled substances on school grounds.
- 9 Collin County children's and teens' deaths in 2004 were alcohol related.
Work Group Priorities 2010
- Increase awareness of the Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children's Medicaid in Collin County
- Analyze perinatal periods of risk in Collin County (partners include University of Texas School of Public Health and Collin County Health Care Services
- Increase the awareness of the importance of a medical home
